Jewelry in Uayamon
About a thirty minute drive outside of San Francisco de Campeche in the community of Uayamon, there is a picturesque jewelry shop in a charming colonial building. This business, called Blanca Flor (white flower), is run by three friendly and talented sisters with a passion for creating unique designs and jewelry. Their materials of choice include tin, nickel and seeds, the latter collected locally from Campeche and the Yucatán. Travelers can participate in jewelry-making demonstrations, classes, and of course shopping around for their favorite treasures.
why It Matters?
The Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya (FHMM) has been active in the Calakmul communities for several years, collaborating with community members on development, education, nutrition and learning artisanal skills.
