Itinerary

Day 1: With a warm welcome to Mexico and an introduction to your tour, you will begin these exciting few days in San Francisco de Campeche with a delicious meal at La Pigua Restaurant, check in at your hotel, and take a beautiful walking tour of this charming colonial city.

Day 2: After a refreshing breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Xtamcubixuan’an and take a tour of the stunning caves. Next, you will tour both the Tokoh and Edzná archaeological sites, with an energizing lunch in between. In the late afternoon you will return to San Francisco where you can enjoy an evening of exploration and fun.

Day 3: Rise and shine! This early morning will take you to Calakmul, where you will tour a stunning archaeological and savor meals in Calakmul’s Conhuás community.

Day 4: Get ready for a day full of exploration! After breakfast in Conhuás, you will tour the Balamkú and Chicanná archaeological zones. You will then be transferred to the community of 20 de Noviembre where you will have the option of participating in various craft workshops, such as embroidery and woodworking, led by local businesses. Your day will end with dinner and a night of rest in the community of Castellot.

Day 5: After breakfast in Castellot, you will be taken on a scenic nature trail tour followed by exploration of El Hormiguero archaeological zone. A late morning transfer to the community of Valentín will provide you a visit to its beekeeping and honey-producing site, a community meal, and a magnificent orchid tour before returning to Castellot for a free afternoon.

Day 6: A morning trip to the community of Cristóbal Colón will allow you to explore its unforgettable caves. You will also receive a tour at the Xpujil archaeological zone, as well as free time at the gorgeous Zoh Lagoon and a trip back to San Francisco to enjoy your last night in Campeche.

Day 7: Sadly, this is the last day of the trip! After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transported to the airport filled with happy and lasting memories of your time in beautiful Campeche.

Pan de Pomuch

Pan de Pomuch, the mouth-watering traditional bread of Campeche, is a beloved tasty treat that travelers can enjoy at Panadería La Huachita in Hecelchakán. Travelers have the chance to attend bread-making tours and classes, a direct and hands-on experience that is unforgettable. Volunteers are also welcome here to help out in the bakery, especially during times of increased bread sales such as the Festival de Pan and Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

An interesting aspect of Pan de Pomuch bakeries is their traditional ovens, made from stones, bricks and glass. When it’s time to bake the bread, firewood is used to give the loaves a delicious flavor. Baking bread in these ovens is more involved than cooking them all at once; rather, each loaf has a specific time, temperature and sequence of baking to ensure a successful batch.

Hammock-Making

Becán is a tranquil community in Calakmul, and browsing its beautiful local handicrafts is a real pleasure for travelers. Within this community is a council of women dedicated to producing colorful, sturdy, and comfortable hammocks. Hammock-making tours and workshops are offered here by this delightful coalition, and travelers will have a great time learning the ways of hammock-making, viewing the beautiful selections, and experiencing the warmth of Becán’s locals.

The Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya (FHMM) has been active in the Calakmul communities for several years, collaborating with community members on development, education, nutrition and learning artisanal skills. Cocodrilario Wotoch Aayin

Wotoch Aayin, also known as “the crocodile house,” is a crocodile sanctuary in Arena Island, Calkiní. It’s an ecotourism center for Morelet’s crocodiles, which were considered a sacred species to the Mayans. Wotoch Aayin is a sanctuary dedicated to ecotourism and education on crocodiles. It was opened in 2006 and is run by Carlos Rivero León, responsible for the maintenance of the ecological trails and nutrition for the crocodiles, and president Romualda Caridad Gómez Gómez. What started off as a few crocodiles quickly turned to hundreds, and the reserve is now thriving!

Carlos and Romualda successfully participate breeding and caring for crocodiles while inviting the public to observe them and educate themselves on this sacred species.
