Festival de Aviturismo

The Festival de Aviturismo is an annual birding event that takes place in Calakmul. You will experience informative activities such as birding observations, conferences, and workshops. It recently celebrated its second year and its organizers are thrilled to begin preparations for its third in fall 2016! What really helps this festival soar is its volunteers. Volunteer roles would include event and marketing coordinators as well as translators and interpreters.

The Festival de Aviturismo has a mission to promote the conservation of birds found in Campeche and to strengthen birding tourism in the area. More Details, Please!

If you find yourself in Calakmul at a time other than the birding festival, fear not! There is a plethora of captivating birds in Calakmul year round. A great way to discover them is by making a trip to the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, home to 350 types of migratory and native birds such as the Great Curassow. Both around Calakmul’s ruins and deeper in the forest provides great observation opportunities for birds including the Singing Quail and Ovenbird, as well as the Pale-billed Woodpecker and Woodcreeper. Los Petenes Biosphere Reserve is another birder’s paradise, home to over 300 species living among the varied vegetation.
